I just stumbled over this video about simplifying legal jargon. We have found the same over this side of the pond in the UK and have been working in various arenas to cut out jargon and use “plain english”.
Although many of Legal 2.0’s team have experience either working in the US or with US companies and law firms, until now Legal 2.0 has not had people on the ground in the United States.
We are now very pleased to announce that we have added consultants in both New York City, New York and Boulder, Colorado. With a now growing client base in the U.S. it was seen as desirable to extend the offering in this way.
In both New York and Boulder we now boast substantial experience in private M&A transactions, securities and general corporate counseling not to mention the ability to manage IPO work.
Legal 2.0 has just acquired the ability to manage clients’ corporate needs in the Seychelles, British Virgin Islands, Hong Kong, Belize, Panama and Anguilla.
In addition to managing corporate needs, such as offshore incorporations, corporate management and sercretarial services and registered and virtual offices in these jurisdictions, Legal 2.0 can also assist individuals looking for wealth management services.
Raj Mahapatra, Managing Director of Legal 2.0 said, “It’s fantastic that we are now in a position to competitively offer these high value services. We are looking forward to working with our existing and new clients in these jurisdictions!”
I have just received an news flash email from a well known law firm tell me about Wellworths. A story ran in the Daily Mail today. The lawyer writing the news flash had the opinion that the ploy would not be worth the risk, the similarity between Woolworths and Wellworths being too great.
Citing the decades of goodwill built up in the brand Woolworths the implication was that the new owners of the brand, Shop Direct Home Shopping Limited, would probably be already discussing plans with their lawyers.
I am interested to see what happens here. I would have thought that Woolworths was such as strong brand that Wellworths will be quite distinct. Also I understood that there was no plan for a high street presence any longer. Add to the mix that Wellworths as a brand (albeit in Ireland) already exists, then you realise that online Woolworths already has issues to deal with.
Then consider that the new owner was the store’s manager when it was Woolies, worked for Woolworths for 18 years, has hired all the staff who were made redundant by Woolies to run a store which by all accounts served the local population well. The PR alone from the news coverage makes this worth it. In the event of a fight, I know who will win the moral high ground.
After a four year battle O2, the British mobile phone operator, lost the trademark infringement case it brought against 3, part of the Hong Kong conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa.

We are pleased to announce that Legal 2.0 is finally up and running. It may have taken us a little longer than anticipated but rather than launching in a half hearted fashion, we wanted to make sure that we were 100% ready to provide our excellent services to clients, old and new. The executive team is made up of Raj Mahapatra, Giles Dixon, Tony Smith and Sharonjeev Benning-Prince, each very different as regards their personalities and their legal specialisms but incredibly complementary. You can read more about us in “The Team” section. We are incredibly excited about our new venture and look forward to speaking with businesses and companies who can benefit from our professionalism and expertise.
